Curriculum Links: Plato and Socrates

Head of the Statuette of Socrates

How do these videos link with what you are teaching?

Ancient History

This section of video is invaluable for all studying OCR Alevel Ancient History: Depth study in H407/12: The Culture and Politics of Athens, c. 460–c.399 BC, as well as the OCR GCSE Ancient History: From Tyranny to Democracy, 546–483 BC Module. Our lecturers introduce the background to Socrate’s trial, the crisis of Alcibiades, and discuss their thoughts on the nature of democracy at the time.

Philosophy and Religious Studies

The Videos on Socrates’ great insight and Plato on the True Self are clearly linked to the OCR Alevel Religious Studies 2c Philosophy of Religion: Soul Mind and Body. Moreover, even though Plato’s works are not specifically mentioned in the AQA A-Level Philosophy: Metaphysics of Mind module, these videos can be good prompts to further discussions about the duality of mind and body.
