How Can you use the Videos in this section?

Tacitus 

The snippets of Dr Gildenhard’s lectures are incredibly useful when discussing using primary sources and historical evidence. The videos are relevant to multiple modules in A Level Ancient History such as The Julio-Claudian Emperors, where Tacitus is an indicated source for the reign of Emperor Nero, and Ruling Roman Britain, and the Flavians where the Histories and the Annals are indicated by OCR as literary evidence All of which use Tacitus as a source. Those studying Ancient History GCSE will also find this discussion on the nature of evidence usefull, especially for the Britannia: from conquest to province, AD 43–c.84 module of the OCR specification. 

Roman Principate

This is a very good introduction to power in Early Imperial Rome, and perfect for those beginning to study Classical Civlisation Imperial Image. Dr Ingo Gildenhard discusses the power dynamics between the emperor, the senators, the army and the praetorian guard. 

 

Rome and Its Neighbours 

This video was specifically recorded for our 2020 GCSE Open Day and the Rome and its neighbours (J198/02) module. Professor Mary Beard discusses the various stories of the death of Romulus and what they tell us about Roman history and politics.
